The process - rough draft
Not validated by loading in sim yet but here is an Sbuilder project file created as follows:
1. Opened shapefile in FGIS. Shapefile downloaded from http://www.webgis.com/terr_pages/FL/lulcgeo/palmbeach.html
2. Reselected out a category that looks like urban
3. Exported the subset selected above as a new shapefile
4. Opened the urban shapefile using mapedit
5. Exported the shapefile as a Polish format. .mp
6. Opened Sbuilder and appended the .mp into a new project.

FGIS
FGIS, Forestry GIS, from the University of Wisconsin is a very flexible program that allows manipulation of existing shapefiles through a query builder. The advantage of FGIS is that after reselecting a shapefile the resulting selection can be saved as a new shape file. That new shapefile can be loaded and then exported as an image.

Creating Regsitered Images from ExpertGPS
I have been able to easily create registered images from the ExpertGPS package using the "export image" feature in that package. I am going to document the proecess but it is very useful because from the image and the data file it is pretty easy to register the bmp for use in Sbuilder. I want to document the process since this is a key part of the scenery building process.
Test Entry
We are going to try using this Blog to document ideas and directions for the project. Presently Bob is exploring some options for using ESRI shapefiles as input data. Scott and Bob are also exploring new methods for creating scenery objects. This is a test entry for the new Blog.
